How to play Snake Jam
The rules
- The board is full of snakes. Each one has a head that shows which way it faces.
- Tap a snake to send it off the board. It slides straight ahead in the direction of its head.
- A snake can only leave if every cell between its head and the edge is empty.
- Tapping a blocked snake costs a life. You have 3.
- Clear every snake to win.
How to play here
- Tap or click a snake to send it off.
- Keyboard: Tab moves between the snakes, Enter or Space taps the selected one.
- The hearts above the board show your lives left; below it you can see how many snakes are cleared.
Difficulty levels
| Level | Size | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | 10×13 | Up to 11 waves of snakes |
| Medium | 12×16 | 12 to 15 waves |
| Hard | 15×20 | 16 to 21 waves |
| Expert | 18×24 | 22 waves or more |
A wave is every snake that can leave at the same time. The deeper the tangle, the more waves it takes.
Tips
- Follow each head’s line to the edge before you tap. One cell in the way is enough to block it.
- Start at the edges: snakes facing outward from the border are often free.
- When you free a snake, look at what was behind it: the snakes it was blocking may be free now.
FAQ
- What happens if I tap a blocked snake?
- It bumps into whatever is in its way and you lose one of your 3 lives. Lose all three and the puzzle ends.
- Does the order matter?
- A snake can only leave once its path is clear. Once a snake can leave it stays free, so any snake that can leave now is a safe tap.
- Is there a new puzzle every day?
- Yes. A new Snake Jam is published every day at each of the four levels: easy, medium, hard and expert. Earlier puzzles are in the archive.
- Do I need an account to play?
- No. You play right in your browser, with no sign-up and no cookies. Your progress is saved in your browser.
