How to play Mahjong Tiles
Play Mahjong Tiles
The rules
- The tiles lie in stacks. A tile is free if no tile lies on it and its left or right side is open.
- Tap two free tiles that match to remove them both.
- Tiles match if they have the same face. Any two flowers match, and any two seasons match.
- Clear every tile to win.
How to play here
- Tap or click a free tile to pick it, then tap a matching free tile. Tap the picked tile again to cancel.
- A tile that is not free is shaded. If you tap it, it shakes.
- Keyboard: the arrow keys move between tiles, Enter or Space picks a tile, Escape cancels.
- Undo takes back a pair. Hint shows a pair to take; press it again for more help.
- The clock runs while you play. There is no score: try to clear the board faster.

Tips
- Start from the top layers and the long rows: they free the most tiles.
- When all the remaining tiles of a face are free, take them: it can never hurt.
- Before you take a pair, look at what lies under the other copies of that face. Do not use up a pair you need to free a buried tile.
FAQ
- When is a tile free?
- When no tile lies on top of it, even partly, and its left or right side is open. Tiles that are not free are shaded and cannot be taken yet.
- Which tiles match?
- Two tiles with the same face match. The four flowers all match each other, and so do the four seasons.
- Can every board be cleared?
- Yes. Every deal is checked before you see it: there is at least one order that clears the whole board. A wrong order can still leave you with no matching pair.
- What if no matching pair is left?
- The board tells you. Undo a few moves and try another way. There is no shuffle.
- Is there a new board every day?
- Yes. A new deal is published every day at each of the four levels: easy, medium, hard and expert. Earlier boards are in the archive.
- Do I need an account to play?
- No. You play right in your browser, with no sign-up and no cookies. Your progress is saved in your browser.
