Letter Rows

Swipe across touching letters, also diagonally, to spell words of three letters or more. Each word scores and its tiles drop out, so the letters above fall. Lower the stack to earn row bonuses. Score as much as you can before time runs out.

How embedding works

The rules

  • The board has 8 columns and 10 rows of letter tiles.
  • Swipe through touching tiles, also diagonally, to spell a word of 3 letters or more. A tile can be used once in a word.
  • A word scores and its tiles drop out. The tiles above fall down. No new tiles come in.
  • Lower the stack: each row the tallest column loses gives a row bonus. Clear the whole board for a big bonus.
  • Score as much as you can before the clock runs out, or press Finish to end early.

Scoring

Word length Points
3 10
4 20
5 40
6 70
7 110
8 or more 160, plus 60 for each letter after 8

Each row of height lost: +30. Empty board: +300.

How to play here

  • Drag across the letters. The word and its points show above the board while you swipe. Lift your finger to play it.
  • Keyboard: the arrows move, Space adds a letter, Enter adds it and plays the word, Escape cancels.
  • There are no hints and no undo: every word counts.

Difficulty levels

Level Time Letters
Easy 2:30 Common letters only
Medium 2:00 Common letters only
Hard 1:40 All letters, with a few rare ones (J, Q, X, Z)
Expert 1:20 All letters, with a few rare ones (J, Q, X, Z)

Tips

  1. Long words score much more than short ones: a 6-letter word is worth seven 3-letter words.
  2. Clear tiles from the tallest columns first to earn row bonuses.
  3. A word that runs down a column or across a diagonal takes tiles from several rows at once.

FAQ

Which words count?
English words of three letters or more from our word list.
Can I use the same word twice?
Yes. Spell it again on other tiles and it scores again.
What ends the game?
The clock reaching zero, the Finish button, or an empty board. Your score is kept when the game ends, and your best score per level is saved on this device.
Is there a new board every day?
Yes. Each board is built from the date, so every day brings a new Letter Rows board at each of the four levels: easy, medium, hard and expert. Everyone gets the same board that day, and earlier boards are in the archive.
Do I need an account to play?
No. You play right in your browser, with no sign-up and no cookies. Your progress is saved in your browser.
