How to play Block Clear
The rules
- The 8×8 board starts with some blocks already on it.
- The tray holds 3 to 6 pieces. Place them all, in any order. Pieces can’t be rotated.
- A full row or column clears straight away.
- You win when every piece is placed and the board is empty.
- If a piece no longer fits anywhere, or blocks are left after the last piece, the puzzle is lost.
How to play here
- Drag a piece from the tray onto the board. A preview shows where it lands, and which lines it clears.
- Tap a piece, then tap the board to place it there.
- Keyboard: number keys pick a piece, the arrows move on the board, Enter places the piece.
- Undo takes back the last piece.
Endless
The Endless tab is classic play: an empty board and three pieces at a time. Place all three and you get three more. Full rows and columns clear as usual. The game ends when none of your pieces fits. Score a point for every block placed, plus a bonus for each clear: clearing several lines at once, or clearing on moves in a row, scores much more. Your best score is kept on this device.
Difficulty levels

| Expert | 6 |
Tips
- Count the gaps in each nearly-full line and match them to the pieces you hold.
- Not every piece clears a line on its own. Some pieces set up a line for a later piece.
- Keep the big pieces in mind: leave room where only they fit.
FAQ
- Can I rotate the pieces?
- No. Each piece goes on the board exactly as it is shown in the tray.
- When does a line clear?
- As soon as a row or a column is completely full. If a piece fills a row and a column at once, both clear together.
- Is there a new puzzle every day?
- Yes. A new Block Clear is published every day at each of the four levels: easy, medium, hard and expert. Earlier puzzles are in the archive.
- Do I need an account to play?
- No. You play right in your browser, with no sign-up and no cookies. Your progress is saved in your browser.
